My name is Nichole Cessnun and I am pursing a lifetime career in Mental Health counseling. I am currently in the internship portion of my graduate program at Grand Canyon University, and I am so excited to be on this path. Below are some links to access more information. 

Short term Goals: 

  • Continue build Skill Development.
  • Continue shaping my Professional Identity.
  • Seek constructive feedback from supervisor and peers.
  • Study and take the NCE licensure exam.
  • Get trained in PCIT and Play therapy

Long term Goals:

  • Continue integrating theory, research, and practice into a cohesive counseling philosophy. 

  • Challenge systemic barriers and advocate for those in counseling & community settings.

  • Engage in lifelong learning through trainings, workshops, and organizations.

Theoretical Framework

     My theoretical framework is grounded in a person-centered approach, emphasizing on empathy, providing a safe space, and unconditional positive regard as the foundation for therapeutic relationships. As well as integrating a strengths-based perspective, focusing on resilience, cultural identity, and what each client brings to the counseling process.

Core Values & Beliefs

    As a counselor in training, my core values and beliefs are the following: being genuine present, cultural humility, being an advocate, spirituality can be a source of strength, resilience, and decisions being guided from professional ethics.
